Opinions on Evolution
I think that we did evolve from the same ancestors as apes (although not from them). This is not because I am necessarily unreligious, but that because the evidence of us evolving is much more circumstantial, and because it explains how everything, not just us, got onto earth at different times, and how everything varies within its own species.
I don't think that humans will evolve any further unless there is real cause to, such as another ice age. If we do evolve further I think that our brain cases will again probably get bigger, and our jaws will again become less protruded, as this would follow the pattern.
They're my opinions, but what are yours?
Treebeard
- "I’m
catholic....if that’s any help....I believe that the world was started by a
big bang but it was planned. I believe in heaven, hell, purgatory and limbo but
I don't believe in Satan."
Flutterby
- "I
have a belief that if Darwin was correct and so is the bible, that God must be a
giant monkey."
Squidgy - "I believe in evolution and I don't believe in a god, but I think that there is SOMETHING like a universal force."
Wolf_Spirit - "I think it's interesting how people who believe in evolution accuse religion as being a comfort and something people believe because they want to and it makes them feel better. Perhaps it is - but Darwinism is no better. Religion has rules - how many teach not to kill? Not to steal? Not to do just about every single crime which plagues our world. If everyone followed the Bible there would be no wars, no murder, no rape.
I don't follow my religion because it makes me feel better - you think believing in the Devil is comforting?! I follow it because it makes sense. It isn't easy. My every move is watched, assessed. Everything I do reflects on my relationship with God. True I'm comforted when I'm praying, when I can feel God's presence there with me, when I feel his arm around my shoulder telling me it's okay. What comfort does evolution bring? The comfort that we are alone. The only justice you have to fear is that of the law, so as long as you can escape the law, you have nothing to fear. No hell, no day of judgement, no purgatory. Religion teaches of a punishment for your crimes - so true believers will try their hardest not to commit them."
